"We first started in 2003 when Josh [Vargo, guitar] and I got some good feedback on the music we'd done for a series of Etnies and Emerica shoe commercials," says frontman Jesse Fritsch. "Then we met our drummer, Ted Humphrey. The next year and a half was spent trying to find our sound, and after breaking in our new bass player Andrew Simpson, things finally started coming together." By "coming together," Fritsch means the band got the honor of opening Face To Face's farewell tour in summer 2004 (alongside a little band called My Chemical Romance) and landed a song in a Tony Hawk video game--all this before their first EP was even recorded. WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: "First and foremost, we love playing music, and that comes across in the songwriting as well as the performance," Fritsch says. "We are the definition of grassroots, and proof that you don't need a lot of money or a big label to make music that people can connect with." The aforementioned Mr. Keith sure thought so: He produced Killing Us Is Easy. "I think Trever put it best when he said something to the effect of, 'It's really good, but different, and that's gonna take kids much longer to like the music--but when they do, they really will.'" --Scott Heisel YOU LIKE?
