THE STORY SO FAR: Honestly, the boys of Sailing To Rome have hardly gotten their sandals mucky compared to other future "Behind The Music" stories. Sure, a couple of lineup changes, some instrument swaps-but in the grand scheme of underground rock drama, Fortuna has blessed the quintet with, well, smooth sailing.
WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: First, props for living in Buffalo. (Us Clevelanders are wimps compared to these snow-trudging soldiers.) Second, if Sailing To Rome had been around in, say, 2003, they probably would've landed a spot on Rockstar Taste Of Chaos and kicked major parking-lot asphalt on Warped Tour. With a sound akin to Saosin and Silverstein, the quintet were just a little late in catching the rising screamo surf. Last, Sailing To Rome boast not one, but two lead vocalists, giving their live show some added appeal. "Kids leave feeling like they have seen two bands in one set," says guitarist Chris Salasny.
