“The fact is,” begins bassist Josh Sweiven, “the scene is dead.” So what do electro-pop quartet Give It Up do? They try to change the situation. “When this band started [in 2011], the goal was to try to get [the Twin Cities, Minnesota] scene back to where it was years ago,” says Sweiven. “A few years ago, a band like Sing It Loud was selling out the same local Minneapolis venues we play at now. Sadly, that just doesn’t happen anymore.” Although Give It Up have a softer sound, Sweiven says they all enjoy bands like Pierce The Veil and Sleeping With Sirens, which may lead to potentially recording and producing their next record with a “big name in the hardcore scene. Though we are generally classified as pop, we hope the mixture of the two will produce a unique sound.”
