Guitarist Alex Lawrence of Aberdeen, Scotland, band Brace, says their goals are quite simple. “At the end of the day, I think we just want to be relevant and enjoy what we are doing at the same time. The balance is difficult, but if we can write riffs that make kids go mental whilst they scream the words back to us, then I guess we've fulfilled every intention we’ve ever had." Brace, who came together in late 2011, refer to themselves as “a hybrid of many corners of heavy music,” because they’re not sure what genre embodies their straight-up punk performances combined with their heavy-hitting metal sound. “We were recently classed as ‘post-metalcore,’” says Lawrence, “but we don't even know what that is! I guess it’s nice to be blurring genre lines and perhaps creating a slightly new sound for people to get into."
