After years of covering Blink-182 songs, guitarist Ryan Heatman and vocalist/guitarist Mark Staddon decided to start writing their own songs, forming Forrest in 2010. The band got a boost in the South Wales punk scene thanks to Gavin Pryce (of Dividers, also featured in this month’s column), who runs a label (What We Should Be Doing) and helped the band release their Before You Go demo on cassette. “If it wasn't for Gavin or the band the Winter Passing, we'd still be playing the pub at the end of our street every other weekend,” Heatman acknowledges. Plying their blended style of emo and pop-punk, Forrest want to play as many shows as possible and keep pushing the music they make.
