THE STORY SO FAR: It's been less than a year since Girls Get All The Action unveiled their addictive brand of electronica-infused pop, and if you gauge a band's success by their MySpace numbers, GGATA will have a difficult time topping 2009. Formed by reformed metal and hardcore kids Chris Baldwin (vocals) and Jason Thompson (guitar), the band recently received some additional hits thanks to their cover of Lady GaGa's "Poker Face." "We've been called 'Richmond's next pop-rock phenomenon,'" says bassist Ben Dalton. "And we've definitely been trying to prove we deserve that title."
WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: There are a lot of subgenre designations out there to describe the dancier end of the pop spectrum, but few of them completely suit Girls Get All The Action. With driving guitars and frenetic, near-jungle techno beats, you'll hear similarities to everyone from the Maine to Coheed And Cambria. "But the best compliment we've received is that we don't sound like anyone else," says Dalton.
