THE STORY SO FAR: From their academic-sounding name to their intricate and airy arrangements, Atlanta quintet Ocean Is Theory exude a certain sophistication. That's an impressive feat considering most of the members were still juniors in high school when they formed in April 2007. "You can tell that this band have an urgent message and believe in something," says frontman Josh Williams. "The maturity of the songs at such a young age is shocking."
WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: While there are elements of prog and post-hardcore swimming throughout Ocean Is Theory, the band also manage to balance modern-rock appeal with indie cred, proven by their time atop the unsigned band chart at SmartPunk.com. Perhaps you even caught them during their winter tour with the Fold. "These songs change our lives a little bit more every time we take the stage," says Williams. "Hopefully they'll affect you in some way, too."
