THE STORY SO FAR: The self-proclaimed nerds of Otenki never thought that six months after forming, they would win an opening spot on the inaugural Rockstar Taste Of Chaos tour. "We started the band for fun to showcase our inner anime dork," says guitarist Fausto Padilla. "We were nerds growing up, and the band was just our way of putting a cool spin on it." Joke's on the cool kids, though, since Otenki have gone on to play Warped Tour and record with producer Paul Leavitt (All Time Low, Circa Survive).
WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: Ask anyone who's heard them and you'll likely hear about their pro-level hooks or their insane live show (members have been known to jump off of ladders onstage). But Padilla says one aspect the band are proud of is their diverse backgrounds. "Three-fifths of the band are of Spanish descent and one member is African American," says Padilla. "That diversity is reflected in the music and hopefully fosters a sense of coming together for the sake of music."
