My life has come a long way since the days when I was super into New Kids On The Block. Or, has it? I'm not really sure. All I know is that I've been obsessively into music since I was quite young. I was made fun of (and rightfully so, I guess) for having NKOTB buttons all over my denim jacket in fourth grade. Sure, I regret that a little (mostly the denim jacket), but that kind of nerdy musical dedication is still with me.
Of course, I've grown since then, and my musical palette has expanded. Though, I'm not going to lie, I still have an affinity for cheesy pop tunes. Through the years I've developed a love for all kinds of music, including alternative and indie rock, hip-hop, prog, classic soul and R&B, old-school country, electronica, and more. It seems like as the years go by, I add another genre to my long list of musical loves. I can't stand people who only listen to one genre of music. I just don't understand it. Variety is key to me. In fact, I generally see music in terms of mood rather than what it is categorized as at the record store.
That brings me to my next point: I'm a sad bastard. I hate happy music. Even when I am happy, I still think it sucks. I like songs about girls, heartbreak, and hard times - the classics.
I guess being a nerd about music has been good to me. I get to write about it, and I make my own, too. In the long run, I'm probably cooler than the kids who laughed at me in fourth grade for my jacket. I'm pretty sure they all listen to Nickelback now.
