Journalism school taught Matt St. John to never editorialize, to focus on the facts, and leave all opinions to the readers and pundits. Then he began his internship at Pastepunk.com for Jordan Baker, the hardest working zine-editor without a Wikipedia entry. There Matt unlearned the golden rule of journalism. He laid fire and brimstone to the sucky records, and exalted the ones that didn’t, and he felt damn good about being biased and honest.
Now between his constant battle with the pests in his garden and paddling around the mushy surf at Ocean Beach, he gets to interview the likes of Ted Leo and AFI for Alternative Press magazine. While he’s no Woodward or Bernstien, he still thinks his journalism professors would be proud.
