Web Exclusive: Meg & Dia Tour Diary (part two)

Welcome to the Meg & Dia tour diary documenting their ongoing tour with Angels & Airwaves. Read part two below, revisit part one here and click here to see the remaining tour dates. We have had the very good fortune of being part of a tour with not only awesome bands but sweet tour managers, sound guys, and crew members as well. They are always in good spirits. While passing through their busy work zones, one will hear low mumbling only coherent to each of them, and although they are completely engrossed in their task at hand, they always have time to lift their sweaty brows long enough for a smile and a polite nod. One of them, whom we refer to as "Doug," even stopped his tugging and pulling of a gigantic entangled cord to tell me the logo I had wood-burned into my amp would be a great design for a T-shirt for our band. "So you do care about our little old support band!" I thought to myself. They are such nice guys. Over a meal at Sushi 101 in North Carolina, Chris (Angels' tour manager) explained Angels' meaning and purpose to their songs and band. In a previous conversation we had had, I told him of my frustrations I have at times when I'm doubtful of my message through our lyrics being understood by our audiences. He listened very intently, and in a wise tone proceeded to explain Angels' story: "Haven't you ever seen Angels' set all the way through? Tom gives this speech at the end about not caring so much about what other people think of you. He wants the crowd to just be themselves and not worry about anything and just listen to the music. Don't worry about being judged by what you listen to, or what you wear, or what you say. Just be for a minute..." On a side note, on an off-day I was watching some Jim Morrison interviews on YouTube. He said something in the same vein. He said that the purpose of a "rock show" is to make the people feel like "one" when they are there together and then when they leave and go to their cars in the parking lot they still feel like "one," and the purpose of the show is to keep that "togetherness" going as long as possible even after the show is over. So from Jim Morrison and Angels I am gaining valuable headway on ideas for my next record. Basically, I'm learning on this tour that people care about you, and they are doing this for you and to help you, and it's important to realize that. -Meg Frampton
