AP’s 25th Anniversary Collector’s Issue Cover Reveal
- May 19, 2010
- by Tim Karan
AP survived well-funded competitors, nu metal, the internet and even ourselves to get to this, our 25th anniversary. We know you're bummed we couldn't get Kitchens Of Distinction, Pale Saints and the Verve to reconvene for the multiple covers of our birthday celebration, but sensing we were in a bind, 3OH!3,ESCAPE THE FATE and THE MAINE stepped up to help us celebrate.
3OH!3 as KID ROCK
(AP 133, AUG 1999)
Rap-rock wunderkind Kid Rock bared it all for photographer Sean Murphy near the end of the '90s, as his sidekick Joe C. (RIP) had his ba...uh, front. Here, 3OH!3's Sean Foreman represents, making sure Nat Motte's very own "Colorado Sunrise" doesn't give unsuspecting readers heart palpitations.

ESCAPE THE FATE as AFGHAN WHIGS
(AP 67, FEB 1994)
Cincinnati-based post-grunge outfit Afghan Whigs were photographed in gentlemen's-poker-tourney mode by Brian Garrity over 16 years ago. Being from Las Vegas, Escape The Fate easily slipped into a similarly wager-making tribute, looking more like rockers instead of bored patriarchs at someone's daughter's wedding.

THE MAINE as BRAND NEW
(AP 185, DEC 2003)
For AP's December 2003 cover, Phil Mucci obscured the faces of the members of Brand New with... themselves. Since you don't leave a piece of art on the floor--and the Maine are going for a more classic-sounding LP--it seems only natural for the band to upgrade to frame-worthy status.
Forward Into The Past! Historic AP Covers Revisited
AP’s elite cadre of photographers drag some of the scene’s notable characters--including, but not limited to members of UNDEROATH, ALL TIME LOW, PARAMORE and BRING ME THE HORIZON--into the past to pay homage to some of the covers from AP’s last two-and-a-half decades. Check out behind-the-scenes videos of photo shoots for the Maine recreating the cover of AP 210.2 (My Chemical Romance) and Escape The Fate recreating the cover of AP 167 (Green Day and Blink-182 being the Damned).
