The year is 2008: Neon pop punk is on the rise, trying to decide what song to set as your Myspace profile is your biggest struggle and your iPod Touch now has Bluetooth support. Sales of physical CDs may be declining but that didn’t stop artists from putting out iconic albums we’ve continued to put on repeat ten years later. Here’s a look back at 20 incredible albums that founded the soundtrack to our youth.

Fall Out Boy – Folie à Deux
RELEASE DATE: Dec. 16
FOB created a viral campaign and mixtape to promote their fourth studio album that was centered around a Big Brother-type organization called “Citizens For Our Betterment” (CFOB).
Panic! At The Disco – Pretty. Odd.
RELEASE DATE: March 25
The deluxe edition vinyl package of Panic’s second studio album was nominated for “Best Boxed Or Special Limited Edition Packaging” at the 2009 Grammy Awards but ended up losing to Radiohead’s In Rainbows.
Bring Me The Horizon- Suicide Season
RELEASE DATE: Sept. 29
While the album cover of a girl holding her intestines seemed too controversial to some, frontman Oliver Sykes explained to Exclaim!: “The whole idea behind the cover is that the girl [on the cover] has her intestines out and it’s about spilling your guts basically, and opening up to the world.”
Bullet For My Valentine – Scream Aim Fire
RELEASE DATE: Jan. 27
The title track from Bullet’s second studio album is featured in the video game Guitar Hero World Tour, while the track “Hearts Burst into Fire” is featured in NHL 09.
Gym Class Heroes – The Quilt
RELEASE DATE: Sept. 9
Half of The Quilt‘s 14 tracks were produced by Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy, with Pete Wentz also receiving credit for working on the track “Catch Me If You Can.”
Breathe Carolina – It’s Classy, Not Classic
RELEASE DATE: Sept. 16
The debut studio album from electronic rock duo Breathe Carolina reached No. 186 on the Billboard 200 as well as No. 6 on the Heatseekers Albums chart.
Every Avenue – Shh. Just Go With It
RELEASE DATE: Feb. 19
The album’s track “Where Were You?” was featured on MTV’s Real World/Road Rules Challenge; The Gauntlet and received over 150,000 downloads on Mark Hoppus’ “Hi My Name is Mark” blog on iTunes.
Thrice – The Alchemy Index Vols. III & IV
RELEASE DATE: Apr. 15
The sixth studio album and final two volumes of The Alchemy Index, a four-disc concept album that was split between two releases, with each disc representing one of the four elements: fire, water, Earth and air.
The Cab – Whisper War
RELEASE DATE: Apr. 29
Frontman Alexander DeLeon’s little sister, Sophia, is the little girl on the cover of the Cab’s debut studio album.
Forever The Sickest Kids – Underdog Alma Mater

While many of the songs from Underdog Alma Mater were already released on the band’s previous EP Television Off, Party On, the tracks had a significantly different sound to them from their original debut.

While on the 2007 Vans Warped Tour, Alkaline Trio performed a new track from the sixth studio album titled “In Vein.”
The Maine – Can’t Stop Won’t Stop

The Maine’s debut full-length peaked at No. 4 on Billboard’s U.S. Independent Albums chart, No. 14 on the U.S. Top Rock Albums, No. 9 on U.S. Digital Albums and No. 11 on U.S. Top Alternative Albums.

Hit the Lights’ second studio album features guest vocals from All Time Low’s Alex Gaskarth on the track “Don’t Wait” and Valencia’s Shane Henderson on “Drop the Girl.”
The Academy Is… – Fast Times at Barrington High

The title of the band’s third and final album refers to the high school in which William Beckett and Adam Siska went, and a play on the title of the 1982 film Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
Hey Monday – Hold On Tight

All songs on Hey Monday’s Hold On Tight were co-written and produced by S*A*M & Sluggo who also worked with Gym Class Heroes, Katy Perry and The Academy Is….
Senses Fail – Life Is Not a Waiting Room
RELEASE DATE: Oct. 7
The album chronicles vocalist Buddy Nielsen’s hardship in breaking up with his longtime girlfriend and his downward spiral into a life of alcoholism and depression. During a 2008 interview with AP Marcel, a terminally ill fan of Nielsen, helped him through his depression and “opened his eyes to some hard truths about the reality of the human condition.”
The All-American Rejects – When the World Comes Down
RELEASE DATE: Dec. 16
Thirty seconds of silence follow the final track “The Wind Blows” revealing a hidden track, “Sunshine” to finish off the album.
Secondhand Serenade – A Twist In My Story
RELEASE DATE: Feb. 19
The album released in Australia with a spelling error in the track listing, with “A Twist In My Story” misspelled as “A Twist In My Sotry.”
