Associate Lifestyle Editor
Alternative Press – Cleveland, OH

Associate Lifestyle Editor
Alternative Press

Job Title: Associate Lifestyle Editor

Job Duration: Full-Time

Company/Publication Name:  Alternative Press

About Our Company:
Headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio - Alternative Press is an internationally known brand in youth culture and music discovery. Now entering our 30th year of business, AP (as our fans call us) has grown from its long-established print brand into concert touring, events, iPad editions, mobile and web.

What We Are Looking For:
Alternative Press Magazine is seeking a smart, self-motivated and resourceful individual to join our team as a full-time Associate Lifestyle Editor. This position requires a trendsetter/ears-to-the-street type whose enthusiasm for knowing the latest about all things related to popular youth culture is a must. Candidates should be highly organized and adaptable to our dynamic work environment. This is an influencer position and we are looking for someone who can steer our readers (Alternative Press Magazine), website visitors (www.altpress.com) and digital fans (the AP iPad APP, AP Digital Mag and AP Mobile) towards the latest, coolest and best in new music, movies, television, books, new tech and more.

AP Fans are a unique set of Influencers who like to be connected first to the next thing and not the past thing. AP's magazine skews towards high school/early college-aged girls while its website skews more 18-24-year old males. This individual must know what each demographic likes, what turns them off and how to grab their attention- whether it would be digitally or in print.

Daily Job Duties:
On a day-to-day level, this Lifestyle Editor position will require copy editing of digital and print content. They will oversee the AP&R (unsigned bands), AP Poll, AP Op-Ed, Readers' Charts and the AP Catalog sections, directly coordinating with any section's Contributing Editor, managing their deadlines, helping collect product/product images and preparing their copy for design. They will also be expected to help launch coverage of film and television on AP's website, www.altpress.com.

As this position requires one to live and breathe popular youth culture, this candidate should be a digital native- connected, aware and savvy to the latest in tech trends- knowing how they work and knowing how to use them to the brand's (and our fans') benefit. Can you shoot video clips for our website with an SLR, post to Pinterest from your phone or maybe know which iPad apps a music fan should not be without? Then you're probably right for our team.

Since starting as a mere punk rock fanzine more than 30 years ago, Alternative Press has been on the forefront of alternative music youth culture. With you being the right candidate for this position, AP will continue to transform into the digital world of the future.

Job Qualifications:
-- Comprehensive understanding of youth/popular culture (music/film/TV/books/tech).
-- Proficiency in Macintosh, as well as Microsoft Word and Excel programs.
-- BA in English, Journalism or related field. 1-2 years experience helpful.
-- Please include salary requirements.
-- Meticulously organized, detail-oriented and prefer a clean work area.
-- Excellent verbal and written communication skills a must.
-- Most Important - A Good, Positive, Self Starting Attitude
