Managing Editor

Now entering our 30th year of business, AP (as our fans call us) has grown from its long-established print brand into concert touring, events, iPad editions, mobile and web.

What We Are Looking For:
Alternative Press Media is looking for an organized, deadline-oriented, self-motivated individual to join the AP team as a full-time Managing Editor. This position requires an individual who is eager for responsibility and not hesitant to take command of the editorial department’s production flow to make sure the train runs on time. The Managing Editor works closely with all of the editors, freelancers and columnists for the brand. They act as a supervisor, a mentor and a guide. Their enthusiasm for the fast-paced world of 24/7 web journalism as well as the long-form, fan-oriented scope of the print brand will be vitally important to their securing this position. 

AP Fans are a unique set of Influencers who like to be connected first to the next thing and not the past thing. AP's magazine skews towards high school/early college-aged girls while its website skews more 18-24-year old males. This individual must know what each demographic likes, what turns them off and how to grab their attention- whether it would be digitally or in print. 

Daily Job Duties:
The Managing Editor makes daily decisions that affect the entire editorial department. These can include adjusting deadlines, hiring and firing of freelance staff, scheduling editorial meetings and coordinating content and materials needed associated with native advertising and the marketing department’s promotional content needs. They will also be the lead contact for the department’s copy editor and will coordinate deadlines for material between them and the production team. The Managing Editor also plays a key role in establishing and overseeing compliance with style standards. 

As this position requires one to live and breathe popular youth culture, this candidate should be a digital native- connected, aware and savvy to the latest in tech trends- knowing how they work and knowing how to use them to the brand's (and our fans') benefit. The Managing Editor must have a thorough understanding of current trends in news media, online journalism and social media. Today’s media environment moves so quickly that having a sharp, adaptable editorial team are vitally important. The candidate that will be right for this position must be capable of helping guide the department through these changes. 

Job Qualifications:

-- Comprehensive understanding of youth/popular culture (music/film/TV/books/tech).
-- Proficiency in Macintosh, as well as Microsoft Word and Excel programs.
-- BA in English, Journalism or related field. 1-2 years experience helpful.
-- Please include salary requirements. 
-- Meticulously organized, detail-oriented and prefer a clean work area. 
—Meeting deadlines are second nature.
—Experience in team management preferable.

Digital Marketing Coordinator

What We Are Looking For:
Alternative Press Magazine is seeking a smart, self-motivated and resourceful individual to join our team as a Digital Marketing Coordinator. Our company is headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio and prospective candidates will preferably live in the general Northeastern Ohio area. Candidates should be highly organized and adaptable to our dynamic work environment. This individual must also be able to communicate well, both written and orally. Qualified applicants will have had experience in similar marketing roles.


-- Aid the marketing director and marketing manager with all of AP's marketing initiatives. 
-- Create and maintain AP’s digital assets:  online banners, e-blasts, app homeslides, etc.
-- Manage social media efforts [Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Vine, Tumblr, Pinterest]
-- Maintain social media calendar
-- Track weekly analytics and apply insights to expand brand awareness
-- Develop and implement strategies to increase engagement
-- Write copy/tag lines associated with all posts
-- Manage all correspondence between AP and fans
-- Keep all platform assets updated with current AP initiatives
-- Setup media campaigns and analyze ROI
-- Staying current with new technologies and features across all platforms 
-- Facilitate all artist live chats and social media takeovers.
-- Fulfill all sponsorship related social media obligations within partnership agreements.
-- Promote all new YouTube and APTV content via AP digital and social assets.
-- Coordinate and execute all online and social media contests 
-- Assist marketing manager with our nation-wide AP street team.
-- Participate in idea generation for the entire marketing department.

Graphic Design:
-- Assist creative team with AP digital, social media and shop design needs.

Job Qualifications:
-- Marketing experience is a must. Marketing/Design degrees preferred.
-- Social media experience is a must [twitter, facebook, instagram, etc.]
-- Dynamic, flexible, hard working and highly organized.
-- Excellent verbal and written communication skills a must. 
-- Excellent attention to detail and ability to finalize products efficiently.
-- Knowledge of all Adobe Creative Suite 5/Photoshop
-- Educated on youth culture (16-24 demo) including movies/television, music, online, technology and style.
