HQ: Sacramento, CA NOW PLAYING: The Naturals (RISE; riserecords.com) THE STORY SO FAR: Instead of spending the summer after high school graduation downing booze at parties, Catherine co-founder Robert Tobin embarked (hours after removing his cap and gown) on a three-month road trip in support of the band's Rise Records debut, Rumor Has It: Astaroth Has Stolen Your Eyes. "The day I graduated from high school, I walked, then I went and played our CD release show," says the guitarist. "Then I left for tour the next day." Now 19 years old, Tobin and his bandmates have paid their dues. "The thing I really appreciate about our band is we've gone through so much so fast at a young age," he says. "And we're able to use that as an influence." WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: In a genre that boasts bandwagons the size of Humvees, Catherine have distinguished their sound, according to Tobin, by being themselves. "[For The Naturals,] we weren't trying to follow a certain trend, we were just writing what we wanted to write. It comes with personality, too, [and] not being influenced by anybody else but yourself." Despite their increasing popularity and partially because of their underage status, the band are remaining level-headed. "As a band, we want a really full career; we don't want to jump the gun too fast," says Tobin.
