NOW PLAYING: Echoes From The Ocean Floor (CONTROL GROUP) THE STORY SO FAR: After disbanding Vendetta Red earlier this year, vocalist Zach Davidson and guitarist Leif Andersen set about reinventing themselves both as players and as people. In Davidson's case, that meant delegating primary songwriting duties to Andersen while the singer sorted out issues of familial estrangement and spirituality that had long consumed him. "Me and my family have been estranged for a long time," says Davidson. "And it's been good to get back in touch with them. I'm in such a good space mentally, physically and spiritually right now and I think the lyrics [on Echoes From The Ocean Floor] are probably an extension of that." WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM:Because even though Sirens Sister sound absolutely huge on record, they never let the size of their rock overshadow its substance. Driven by hopeful lyrics and choruses that could fill canyons, Echoes is the kind of confident, comforting rock record destined to bring people together. "I want [people] to hear the record and call their moms," says Davidson. "That's the kind of vibe I get playing this music. It makes me want to get closer to the people I care about." Of course, it also helps that the music is some of the most thrilling arena rock your city's small rooms have ever seen. "This is the best time of my life," he gushes. "I feel like I'm finally grasping a part of me I wasn't able to reach before." --Tristan Staddon YOU LIKE? YOU'LL LIKE: U2 / Sparta / Vendetta Red |
