HQ: Buffalo, NY NOW PLAYING: M(US)IC (EQUAL VISION; equalvision.com) THE STORY SO FAR: All four members of Damiera sacrificed to make the band a reality-two members even relocated across the country. Bass player Mark Henry broke up his band of eight years to commit to Damiera, and vocalist/guitarist Dave Raymond broke up his band of three years. "Our drummer [Brad McRae], his band broke up, and the next day he jumped on a bus and rode 30 hours here from Florida," says Raymond, who met McRae through touring with previous bands. And when co-founding member Matthew Kipp left, Raymond placed an ad on PureVolume and received responses from across the country, including one from Rock Whittington of New Orleans. "Rock got in touch with me before Hurricane Katrina. Then the hurricane hit, and I figured he was out of the picture," Raymond explains. "I called him to see how he was doing, and a couple days later he ended up flying up here." WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: Raymond's vocals aren't screamed at you, but actually sung. The album layers catchy melody upon catchy melody, seamlessly complimenting the vocal sound. "This isn't a singer/songwriter band, where one person writes the songs," Raymond says. "This is a four person collective, and it's a dream come true to have this kind of chemistry." Upon completion of their Equal Vision debut, M(US)IC (pronounced "us in music"), the boys will hit the road for a self-booked 110-day tour. - Kira Wisniewski YOU LIKE?
