HQ: St. Albans, England NOW PLAYING: Take To The Skies (AMBUSH REALITY) THE STORY SO FAR: Once a three-piece with equal love for hardcore and trance, Enter Shikari's been love-boxing the ears of stunned onlookers and perplexed industry execs since high school. Forgoing industry protocol, they released a smash of hugely popular U.K. singles via their own Ambush Reality label, and by the time they'd added guitarist Liam Clewlow and gigged with My Chemical Romance and Billy Talent, they were headlining London's storied Astoria. "We used to just do a lot of DIY shows, putting flyers up at venues and [things like] that, but people were getting disappointed because the venues would be too full," explains bassist Chris Batten. Not bad for a band without a proper album. WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: Besides their DIY ethos, these mates absolutely freaking destroy. Take To The Skies ebbs and flagellates from shape-shifting rock prophesizing to violent spazz-jams without ever stepping sideways. "The album takes you through quite a few emotions," says Batten. "It's a bit of a roller coaster. I think there are about three seconds of silence on the whole album." Behind huge sounds, epic ambitions and little interest in conventional expectations or genre tags, these Brits are making it on their own terms. "We get genre names chucked all over the place at us," says Batten, laughing. "We wanted the passion and unity of hardcore and the breathtaking sense of trance. There's nothing better than when you're in a club and a massive tune drops and the club just bursts into euphoria." -Tristan Staddon YOU LIKE?
