HQ: Orange County, CANOW PLAYING: Requiem (Science Records) THE STORY SO FAR: Cliché or not, sometimes it actually is all about being in the right place at the right time. In just under two years, the boys in the Confession have taken their band from a SoCal basement hobby to the road alongside Bullet For My Valentine. That's thanks largely, explains vocalist Taylor Holland Armstrong, to a demo the band cut at Saddleback Community College in Mission Viejo, California, which quickly made its way to Science Records, who signed them almost as quickly. After that, they were catapulted into non-stop touring. "Looking back, it wasn't the best idea [to sign so fast] because we didn't have a chance to build a core fanbase," says Armstrong. But the band have been putting in overtime to earn their cred retroactively. WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: When you come out of nowhere, you have to make sure the crowds remember you, and their relentless gigging and energetic live shows are finally building them a solid fanbase and even aligned the band with Avenged Sevenfold frontman M. Shadows, who produced Requiem. "[Shadows] is a fucking rad guy," says Armstrong. "He pulled out a lot of stops. There was some stuff we couldn't afford [to do], but he made it work. Musically, he let us do our own thing." As for everything else, the Confession realize it ain't all glamour. "It's not all about chicks and drugs," says Armstrong. "There's a lot of hard work." -Adam K. Zakroczymski III YOU LIKE? YOU'LL LIKE: EIGHTEEN VISIONS / AVENGED SEVENFOLD / THE BLED Official label website: www.myspace.com/sciencerecords |
