In Remembrance: Jeff Hanson of M.I.J. (1978-2009)

Alternative Press - Scott Heisel on 6/6/09 @ 12:31 AM - altpress.com

The Minneapolis Star Tribune is reporting that singer-songwriter Jeff Hanson was found dead Friday, June 5 at his apartment in St. Paul. He was 31. Hanson's sister Sara has made a statement saying the death was most likely accidental and caused from a fall at his new residence. She also emphasized that it was not drug-related.

Hanson started his music career in the mid-'90s as frontman for the emocore band M.I.J., who released an EP and full-length on Nebraska indie label Caulfield Records (which also released crucial records from Christie Front Drive, Mineral and others). Hanson embarked on a solo career in 2003, most recently releasing Madame Owl on Kill Rock Stars in 2008. He had just finished a tour in support of the album last week.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family, friends and fans of Mr. Hanson.
