AP EXCLUSIVE: HAWTHORNE HEIGHTS COMMENT ON FIRST SHOW BACK

Posted by Scott Heisel on 10-Apr-08 @ 10:50 AM

After the passing of guitarist/vocalist Casey Calvert last November, many wondered if Hawthorne Heights would ever be able to return to the stage again. The Dayton, Ohio, natives overcame the odds this past weekend and performed at Bamboozle Left in southern California to a responsive crowd, their first show since Calvert's untimely death. We contacted HH drummer Eron Bucciarelli for an update on how the show went, and here's what he had to say.

Bamboozle Left marked our first show since the loss of our dear friend. The show was inescapably a polarizing experience for us as we were both nervous and excited. Nervous, as things would undoubtedly be different. Casey's ridiculous stage antics and off-the-cuff hilarious remarks (often inside jokes) to the crowd would not be with us for the first time ever. It was to be a truly emotional experience, one in which we will always solemnly remember. Excited, as this show was not just our return to the stage but a return to a state of normalcy which seems to have been just out of our grasp for over a year now; It was a return to being a band again!

We had a few technical glitches and a handful of flubbed notes along the way, but the amazing support from our fans was unwavering! A sense of calm and (in some sense) triumph came over us as we stepped off stage. We knew our first show back would not be easy, but we managed to pull it off. Whether you were there in person or spirit, thank you for being a part of something that was very difficult and very special to us. We love all of you and we look forward to sharing many more memories with you!
The band have one more show scheduled this spring (April 18 at the University Of Memphis) before they get revved up for their slot on this summer's Projekt Revolution Tour, alongside Linkin Park, Atreyu, Armor For Sleep and more (dates).

SHAI HULUD POST NEW ALBUM TRACK, ADDRESS SOME RUMORS

Posted by Ben Sailer on 09-Apr-08 @ 03:19 PM

Attention Shai Hulud fans, prepare to get stoked: The long-running melodic metalcore band have posted the title track from their forthcoming album, Misanthropy Pure, on their MySpace page. The full album hits stores May 27 on Metal Blade.

In other news, the band has also made a lengthy blog post detailing the new record, as well as addressing some rumors that have been circulating in regards to a recent bus accident (their short-bus merely tipped on its side) and guitarist Matt Fletcher's "departure" to enjoy feng-shui (which, by the way, was an April Fool's joke). You can read the blog in its entirety here.

AP EXCLUSIVE: DETAILS ON NEW REGGIE AND THE FULL EFFECT ALBUM

Posted by Scott Heisel on 08-Apr-08 @ 07:21 PM

Alternative Press has exclusively obtained details on the upcoming fifth album from James Dewees' alter ego, Reggie And The Full Effect. The 12-song disc, titled Last Stop: Crappy Town, was produced by Sean Beavan (Slayer, Nine Inch Nails), and was recorded in the summer of 2006 in both New York City and Los Angeles. Dewees was joined on the record by RATFE touring drummer Billy Johnson, Slipknot's Paul Grey on bass and Coalesce's Cory White on guitar.

"Just two weeks after we started, we had this concept record about how the NYC transit system. Particularly the subways in Brooklyn - with the songs connecting together like trains in the station," says Dewees.  "I also have to mention Sean Beavan has a great falsetto, his wife has a fantastic voice, and Stevie Cruz can scream his head off in an hour. So that was that. Except on this record, there was nothing remotely reminiscent of the Reggie that fans were expecting.

"I think everyone can relate to the fact that sometimes being funny all the time just isn't fun all the time," he continues. "Don't think for a sec that the goofy James is gone, just ask my wife. She is up to her ears in goofy every day of the week."

"I'm 32 years old and fortunate enough to have been a part of this scene pretty much from the old days of $5 10-band basement shows with Jimmy Eat World and Jejune. In summary, I like this record a lot because it pulls from the last 13 years of my life. I hope you enjoy it too."

Last Stop: Crappy Town comes out June 17 via Vagrant Records.
