SAOSIN DISCUSS WORK ON UPCOMING ALBUM

Posted by Rachel Lux on 28-Apr-08 @ 10:04 AM

Post-screamo band Saosin have posted a discussion on their message board regarding starting work on their next album. Guitarist Beau Burchell had this to say, in part:
I am really stoked to start doing this record.. chris has already come up with a couple songs that are pretty much finished already, which was really inspiring to me, so yesterday i started doing some writing and came up with 2 pretty kick ass songs.. heavier stuff. i have been listening to a lot of norma jean and underoath lately as well as a lot of strange insturmental stuff, and really cheesy adult contemporary stuff... i am a sucker for a great pop song... not pop as in britney spears pop, but just a great song, like 3eb, oasis, stuff like that. not that these songs sound like them, but i guess it just kind of shows through what music people listen to when they write... anyhow, cove and i have been talking about ideas and concepts for the new record, and i cant even to begin to explain how pumped i am...

we like our catchy stuff, and we like our heavy stuff.. we wont be turning our backs on any of it... just pushing things a little further... kick ass riffs but with great song writing, awesome melodies. so here is the plan. we plan on moving into the rehersal space and start jamming on our ideas. this time around we really wanna make sure all the songs are gonna translate live first, before we go into the studio.. in the past, it was the opposite, we would write things in pro tools, then figure out how to pull it off live... but this time we are gonna do kind of a combo...

so ya, we will be getting into the rehersal space, and probably be jamming on stuff for about a month.

then from there, we plan on moving into the studio, where we will start recording the record.. i think we are planning on being in there for a few months, but as you guys know, we wont stop until we are totally happy with everything we've got. i am really excited.. and its going to be a great ride...

HE IS LEGEND RELEASE NEW DEMOS ONLINE

Posted by Ben Sailer on 25-Apr-08 @ 06:48 PM

North Carolina rockers He Is Legend have posted four new tracks, titled "Stranger Danger," "Don't Touch That Dial," "Everyone I Know Has Fangs," and "Decisions Decisions Decisions" on their MySpace page. Vocalist Schulyar Croom had this to say about the band's recording process while putting the demo tracks together:

I've been battling with the best way to explain our recording process to all of you. It is important for us to express to you how incredible we feel about these new songs and still not come off like a bunch of blow-hards. Maybe your expecting stories about the "magic in the air", or "the feeling of the vibe." Maybe you want to hear about all our rock star friends dropping by with Filipino models and big black suitcases full of goodies smuggled in from far away fairytale lands. No no, there was none of that madness I can assure you. But you bet your ass that before Steve's first "BOOM-RAT-TAT-TAT-TAT", we had already put in our first order for Chicken Wings. Yes my friends, if Warrior Sound is "where the magic happens", then Wingman in Carborro Plaza is "why it happens."

You can read the rather lengthy post in it's entirety here on the band's MySpace blog.

GREG GRAFFIN TO RECEIVE AWARD FROM HARVARD

Posted by Ben Sailer on 25-Apr-08 @ 06:16 PM

Yeah, you read that headline right: Greg Graffin, frontman for the long-running punk band Bad Religion, is receiving the "Outstanding Lifetime Achievement Award in Cultural Humanism" from The Humanist Chaplaincy at Harvard University. Graffin, who holds a PhD in Zoology from Cornell, had the following to say:

"I always put education high on my list of priorities because I thought, Wouldn't it be neat if you can have a singer of your favorite band who also has something more to offer than looking cool - which I don't - or dressing cool - which I don't;" Graffin said. "Those are the things that I try to inspire young people to do, whether it is in the lecture hall or on stage on the Warped Tour."

Greg Epstein, the Humanist Chaplain of Harvard University, spoke highly of Graffin's contributions to the world as an atheist, saying:

"Graffin is proof positive that atheists can be great ethical role models: young people idolize rock stars, and what more could you want from one than his lifelong dedication to science, education, and Humanism?"

The award ceremony will be held on April 26 (that's tomorrow) from 8 to 10 p.m. in The Memorial Church at Harvard. Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for the general public. You can get those tickets either from the Harvard box office, or online here.

YELLOWCARD TO TAKE "INDEFINITE HIATUS"

Posted by Tim Karan on 25-Apr-08 @ 01:49 PM

Pop-punkers Yellowcard have announced that they will go on an "indefinite hiatus." Frontman Ryan Key revealed in an interview that the band's tour with the Spill Canvas and Play Radio Play, which ended April 12, may have been their last.

Key had this to say:
"We really don't have any plans. We are calling it an 'indefinite hiatus.' After this tour, so, I don't know. It could be a year, 10 years, or 6 months. It's been an interesting time in this business and our record label. It's just. We kind of need a break. I think it appears everything is ok on its surface but we definitely need a little bit of time to figure out our personal lives. It doesn't have anything to do with turmoil in the band. It's more of a, facing adulthood now, and we can't stay in Neverland forever. You know what I mean. I think we just need a break. Hopefully we will get back to making another record sometime, if not it may be our last but we don't really know. We're just keeping the door open."
