AltPress Exclusive: A Wilhelm Scream sign to Paper + Plastick

Alternative Press - Scott Heisel on 6/29/09 @ 10:28 AM - altpress.com

Alternative Press has exclusively learned that New Bedford, Massachusetts-based tech-punks A Wilhelm Scream have signed on the dotted line with Paper + Plastick, the record label run by Less Than Jake drummer Vinnie Fiorello.

"I've toured with A Wilhelm Scream," says Fiorello. "I know the band's work and touring ethic, I know them as friends and I know they are a great fucking band live. I'm more excited than I can put to words that I am doing this."

"When Vinnie approached us about putting something out with Paper + Plastick I remember being impressed by his energy," AWS guitarist/vocalist Trevor Reilly says. "Guy was going off about obscure punk bands we knew from the early '90s, a bit about his own history, being in a full-time touring band and after five minutes of talking to him we knew we had to team up for something. The ethos of his label matched the ethos of our band. We like his ideas, respect his practical business sense and admire his passion for bridging graphic arts and music and his desire to simply make cool ass shit to stoke out the fans. He'd never say it but I think the dude's trying to save punk rock as we know it. I really do."

The band's first P+P release will be a self-titled, five-song 12-inch out this fall. The band produced the EP in their home studio, and it will be mixed by Matt Bayles (Minus The Bear, Mastodon); according to Reilly, it's "nearly 40 minutes of music and is full of surprises."

The EP will be the follow-up to 2007's Career Suicide, which gave us this gem of a song, "I Wipe My Ass With Showbiz." Check it out:

Bruce Springsteen joins the Gaslight Anthem onstage at Glastonbury

Alternative Press - Scott Heisel on 6/28/09 @ 11:27 AM - altpress.com

Sometimes, rock 'n' roll dreams come true after all: Yesterday, as New Jersey's latest sensation the Gaslight Anthem performed at the U.K.'s Glastonbury Festival, fest headliner (and all-around rad dude) Bruce Springsteen watched on from the wings. But that's not all: As the band were about to play "The '59 Sound," The Boss joined them onstage for what we can only imagine was a rollicking rendition of the track.

We can only imagine, however, because while there is video available via the BBC here, it appears that it will only play for you if you're located in the U.K. -- bummer.

However, the BBC has supplied screenshots of the once-in-a-lifetime duet, available below:

If that doesn't get you supremely stoked for Gaslight's North American tour this fall with Murder By Death, it's possible you may not have a pulse. Dates here.
