Actor Robin Williams found dead of apparent suicide

Beloved comedian and Oscar-winning actor Robin Williams, known especially for his work in films like Mrs. Doubtfire, Good Will Hunting, Hook, Jumanji and countless other classics, was found dead at 63 of what police are investigating as an apparent suicide this morning.

According to the Marin County Sheriff’s Office, Williams was found unconscious and not breathing in his home at 12 p.m. and pronounced dead at 12:02 p.m. PST. Multiple reports state that his cause of death is suspected to be suicide due to asphyxia, which will have followed what his publicist describes as a recent struggle with depression.

“Robin Williams passed away this morning. He has been battling severe depression of late," his publicist Mara Buxbaum said in a statement. "This is a tragic and sudden loss. The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time.”

Williams' wife Susan Schneider also released the following statement, urging fans to remember him for the joy he brought rather than for how his life ended.

"This morning, I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings. I am utterly heartbroken," she said."On behalf of Robin's family, we are asking for privacy during our time of profound grief. As he is remembered, it is our hope the focus will not be on Robin's death, but on the countless moments of joy and laughter he gave to millions."
