Filming starts on movie based on To Write Love On Her Arms story

Filming has commenced for the upcoming motion picture, Renee, based on the true story of Renee Yohe—a young woman who beat drug addiction, alcohol abuse and the compulsion to injure herself, and the same woman whose life inspired the nonprofit organization To Write Love On Her Arms. Kat Dennings (Nick And Norah's Infinite Playlist, Thor) will portray Yohe, Chad Michael Murray (One Tree Hill) plays TWLOHA founder Jamie Tworkowski and Rupert Friend (The Young Victoria, Pride & Prejudice) plays David McKenna—a recovering addict who offers his home to Yohe as a safe haven. The cast also includes Corbin Bleu (High School Musical), Mark Saul (The Social Network), Will Peltz (Sugar) and Juliana Harkavy (Dolphin Tale). Gym Class Heroes frontman Travie McCoy and singer/songwriter Rachael Yamagata also appear as musical performers in the movie, which, according to a press release, "juxtaposes gritty realities and rich fantasy."

Tworkowski—whose story about Yohe helped build TWLOHA—served as a consultant on the script. The movie is being directed by Nathan Frankowski.
