The Rock And Roll Hall of Fame is celebrating their 15th Anniversary this weekend in Cleveland, and it wouldn’t be a Rock Hall party without live music. Aside from Friday, Sept. 3 performances by Eli “Paperboy” Reed and a DJ set from Tommie Sunshine, Cincinnati glam-rockers Foxy Shazam will light up the stage. We checked in with frontman Eric Nally about his thoughts on performing at the venerable institution.
What was your reaction when the Rock Hall invited you to play for their anniversary?
ERIC NALLY: [It’s] a big thing for us, because just the fact that we were on their radar in the first place—I figured they wouldn’t know who we are, so it was just really cool and we were honored they asked. We didn’t really believe it at first because it was out of nowhere, but it’s going to be a really fun experience, I think.
Have you been to the Rock Hall before?
I haven’t, but our trumpet player [Alex Nauth] is from Cleveland and he’s been there a lot. I kind of made a pact to myself… It’s been a dream of mine to someday be in that thing, so I kind of wanted to wait to go until the induction ceremony. [Laughs.] But I think I’ll make an exception just because I’m honored that they asked for us to play, so I’m really excited. I think this is a special thing for me, so we're going to go early and check it out, and it’s going to be awesome.
When the day comes that you’re inducted, what would you like the Rock Hall to display from your memorabilia?
I think it would be cool if they had my jacket. I’ve thought about this a lot. [Laughs.] And maybe every outfit I’ve worn on an album cover so far I’ve saved and I haven’t worn after that day, so I have the shirt from our Introducing record and I have the outfit from [Foxy Shazam]. I have it all stored away in a box. And I have the jackets I play with live and the things from our videos. I really save all the significant things from what we do. And I think any piece of equipment that breaks, I think that’s significant, too, to where we were at a specific time in our career, so I save it.
Foxy Shazam will take the stage at 10:30 pm Friday during the Rock Hall Ball. Ticket packages start at $15. For more info, visit the Rock Hall online.
