North Carolina-based “apocalypse pop” singer/songwriter Jackson Scott has released a slow, dreary cover of Third Eye Blind’s drug-fueled single, “Semi-Charmed Life.” The song, a true ‘90s anthem (“Doo doo doo, doo doo-doo doo”), recently turned 17. How old does that make you feel?
Scott’s lo-fi cover is dark and feels somewhat disturbing (and more effective) when put in context with the original, ironically upbeat song’s (often-missed) lyrical message: “Doing crystal meth will lift you up until you break/It won't stop, I won't come down.”
