Lollapalooza to venture overseas in 2011

For the first time in its two decade history, Lollapalooza will host an event outside North America. On April 2 and 3, there will be a Lollapalooza festival in Santiago, Chile. Founder/Jane's Addiction frontman Perry Farrell says he plans to include both Chilean artists with a "musical foreign exchange" featuring acts who would play the annual Chicago event (2011's is scheduled for Aug. 5 through 7). "What we are very interested to learn is how widely spread the demographic will be. In Chicago we have hipsters as well as young parents with children in attendance. It is one of the few places in the world where a generation gap doesn't exist."

Lollapalooza was a touring festival from 1991 to 1997 and was revived in 2003 and became an annual Chicago event in 2005.
