Morrissey reveals New York, Los Angeles dates ahead of full tour announcement

When we brought you news last month that Morrissey had inked a new record deal, and would finally be dropping his long-awaited tenth album this fall, we also mentioned plans for a 2014 tour. Though we knew more information would arrive "very soon," concrete details were scant at the time. Now, with the announcement of the singer's first two shows of the new year, we have a better idea of the scope and timeframe.

Announced this evening via True-To-You, Morrissey's semi-official website and communication channel, the singer will perform Saturday, May 10 in Los Angeles at the Los Angeles Sports Arena, and Saturday, June 21 in Brooklyn, N.Y. at the Barclays Center. Long-running Morrissey opening act Kristeen Young will support both dates, with the addition of Tom Jones at the former and Sir Cliff Richard at the latter.

We can officially confirm that these performances are not isolated dates and are, in fact, part of a larger tour, with a full announcement expected to arrive over the next few days.

Recording for Moz's new album, which is currently underway with producer Joe Chiccarelli in France, will presumably be completed before the tour begins.

Throughout late 2012 and well into 2013, the former Smiths frontman was forced to postpone and cancel dates in North and South America due to family matters, illness, and unforeseen logistical problems. Many markets in North America, especially, faced multiple postponements ahead of cancelation, and Morrissey's upcoming tour is expected to revisit a large number of those cities.

Also in the works, Morrissey has announced plans to follow his widely successful 2013 memoirAutobiography, with first first literary foray into fiction, though, with a two-album commitment and tour plans on the horizon, it's unclear when we can expect the book to arrive.

The singer's only public performance in recent months was at a Dec. 11 Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony in Oslo, Norway. By the time of his return to the stage in May, 14 months will have passed since he last played a proper concert. Check out a clip from that Oslo appearance below:
