Weezer sign to Epitaph; new album out Sept. 14

For the first time in their 18-year career, three-time AP cover stars Weezer are on an independent label. The hugely influential alt-rock band have officially signed to Epitaph Records after a string of seven full-lengths with major label Geffen. Epitaph head honcho Brett Gurewitz confirmed the signing on his Twitter earlier today, tweeting, "Rivers, Pat, Brian and Scott, Welcome to Epitaph homies! FT=W="

The band, who have sold more than 6 million records in America alone, will release their Epitaph debut, Hurley, on Sept. 14. Fall touring plans are to follow, as will a reissue of 1996's Pinkerton on the group's now-former label, DGC.
