Something Corporate re-recording songs for greatest hits album

Alternative Press - Tim Karan on 2/9/10 @ 10:27 AM - altpress.com

Something Corporate--who announced that they will reunite at the Bamboozle California--spent the past week in Santa Monica recording new versions of "Wait" and "Letters To Noelle"--two songs that originally appeared on the band's 2001 EP, Galaxy Sessions.

Frontman Andrew McMahon told the OC Weekly, "We basically went back [into the studio] with this idea that we would kind of revisit a couple of demos that we never really ended up putting on the first two [Something Corporate] records but that we still loved and that we always wanted to do." McMahon went onto say, "We went back into the studio sort of with the idea that we wouldn't be bringing in brand new material so we could get it done quickly and not have to do a bunch of pre-production and stuff. We just hung out in the studio for a week. First time we had been in a studio together in, God, probably four or five years."

The Galaxy Sessions EP was given to members of Something Corporate's mailing list who sold more than five tickets to the band's May 11, 2001, show at the House Of Blues in Anaheim. The new versions of the song are slated to appear on a greatest hits compilation which will be released in April or May. McMahon says there will likely be three or four tracks on the album that are new recordings or mixes.

AWESOME!!!!! I'm so glad they're getting back together I mean I love Jack's Mannequin but there is nothing like old fashioned Something Corporate

Pete Wentz and Craig Owens to collaborate on new project

Alternative Press - Tim Karan on 2/8/10 @ 3:30 PM - altpress.com

After months of not-so-subtle clues and performances together, Pete Wentz has revealed that he and ex-Chiodos frontman Craig Owens will be working on a project together that will be officially announced later this month. According to online reports, the new project will be signed to Wentz's label, Decaydance, and managed by Crush Management.

I hope to hell Owens isnt selling out. He does wayyy too many side projects, he should have stuck with Chiodos(which is dead now with the announcement of the new singer). Owens has so much talent and he should just focus it into 3 or less bands/projects. Who knows...

dussyy
I have faith in him. Hopefully this will turn out well. Im a huge fan of his solo album and hope he does more stuff like that. I did hear somewhere that he will be doing more music like Chiodos and maybe this is what he is working on with Pete?

abcdefaly
i completely agree with dukeman.

agua
I am more interested in what chiodos will be doing. also becoming successful = selling out that's stupid losing craig did not make chiodos less of a band considering craig didn't do much in the first place

Bratley717
I am sorry to hear that you are retarded in your statement agua, because the sounds makes the band, the voice. My mother works in the music industry and I know for a fact that Craig Owens was the sound of Chiodos. If you heard anything new would you know it was Chiodos from the first time that you listened to them. NO. I support Craig Owen and I have hung out with him a few times. He is a good person and is an amazing singer/songwriter. Pete Wentz is also an amazing singer/songwriter and the collaboration that they are planning on doing should be good music.

KryKslr
@TheDukeMan70......I really think you should do some research before making silly statements like that. First of all....Craig didn't have the choice to "stick with Chiodos"....they kicked him out....and it wasn't over his side projects.....first of all Brad Bell was in Cinematic Sunrise with him, and Matt Goddard did Isles and Glaciers with him....and second of all....Craig booked himself full with the side projects because he didn't want to interfere with the band's writing and wanted to give them space to do what they need to do....and also....Chiodos isn't dead because of new members.....you can't make a statement like that until you know who it is....they picked up a nice drummer already

iheartpopculture
In defense of TheDukeMan70, Craig DID have way too many side projects. Bipolar has a way of making you spread yourself too thin. Owens has bipolar and the reason they kicked Craig out was probably due to drug use ("I'm snorting lines off of the same books I read") or the insurmountiable number of side projects Owens was racking up. I'm an Owens fan and Wentz is a good lyricist. Maybe this project will be good. Maybe not. I'm not sure whether Chiodos will suck as I have yet to listen to the new singer. I still think kicking Craig out was stupid. If your friend has a drug problem or is spreading themselves too thin you can stage an intervention not kick them out of the band.

iheartpopculture
Whose to say though, that they did and he refused help? I'm a Craig fan but I'm trying to see both sides POV. Craig is a great musician and I'm stoked to see anything he and Mr. Wentz can cook up! :D

deadanddivine
Craig is going to be selling out if hes working with Pete. Worst idea ever. Someone as talented as Craig shouldn't lower themselves down to Pete

New Chiodos singer revealed

Alternative Press - Tim Karan on 2/8/10 @ 2:01 PM - altpress.com

Although they had planned to reveal their new vocalist at the Bamboozle California in March and no official statement has been released by Equal Vision or the band, news of the new Chiodos frontman has leaked online: it's Yesterdays Rising singer Brandon Bolmer.

For those who caught the tail-end of this past summer's Warped Tour, this won't be the first time you've seen Bolmer step into another frontman's shoes--he filled in for Tyson Stevens when the singer parted ways mid-tour with Scary Kids Scaring Kids. Yesterdays Rising are a post-hardcore outfit from California, and Bolmer is still currently listed as a member, so it's unclear if he will remain with the band as he begins playing with Chiodos.

Bolmer will replace Chiodos' former vocalist, Craig Owens, who parted ways with the band in September.

Check out a video of Yesterdays Rising below and let us know if you think Bolmer will be a good fit!

EPIC FAIL

... really...?

................wat. ugh.

coramosa
prepare your faces for melting

tasteochaos
He somewhat sounds like Brandon Boyd from Incubus. We'll see about this one. Kinda preferred Jerry Roush despite not really being a big fan of SEA.

civcom12
Kicking out Craig was the worst business decision they could have made. This guy is terrible.

PleaseEnjoi
this is my first time hearing this guy, he doesn't sound too bad, but i think jerry roush would've been a better fit

foblover6713
i support the chiodos so if this is who they wanted has their lead singer then be it

LalalaLily
The guy's not that bad. But it was a really bad decision on Chiodos' part kicking Craig out. Craig was Chiodos.

FFTL89
ehhh hes ight..just gotta see the man perform live...never heard of Yesterdays Rising lol

TheDukeMan70
Okay, first off tasteochaos he sounds NOTHING at all like Brandon Boyd, please formulate better thoughts before speaking. This dude blows. Chiodos is dead.

ScottSupersonic
I really like Yesterdays Rising, but he's definitely not as good as Craig.

sean823
yeah definitely not

abcdefaly
i have been a huge fan of chiodos for a really long time, and even though i was disappointed to hear that they kicked craig out, i still believed in them enough to think that maybe they'd still be good. however, now after i'm hearing brandon bolmer i'm not so sure...i wish craig didn't have so many side projects and would have just focused on chiodos, it was what he was best at.

phyre
This kid is an okay singer, but will never be as good or better than Craig Owens. Craig is irreplacable and I know that Chiodos is going to push this new guy into sounding just like him. Craig WAS Chiodos. It's a cop-out to force Bolmer into being the "new Craig" and they would be much better off starting fresh with a new sound and a new band name.

logan12
This guy is a better singer and almost a better screamer than Craig. If you say Craig was Chiodos, you were never a real fan.

Xdawnkillsdreams
it's not that craig WAS chiodos, he just made the band click just right. for instance, john frusciante and the chili peppers clicked just right or how ozzy and black sabbath clicked together. the bands still went on without those members but they'll never be as good as when they have the right formula like what chiodos had.

catastrophe_queen
He's not that bad but i just don't see myself being a fan because the lyrics will be so different from Craigs and I think thats what made Chiodos so special. But hey I'll give them a chance I guess.

coramosa
Welcome to the chiodos expert discussion panel - today's topic: music we've never heard and people we've never met Yall are right, the old chiodos dead. But the new one is going to be way, way better. If you've been in a band and gone through a drummer change, you know how much it can effect your songwriting, especially if the new one is better. Craig fans - he'll have new music out soon. Chiodos fans - you're in for a treat. Thats all.

logan12
catastrophe_queen, Craig only wrote a total of 3 songs during his time with Chiodos. Which included 2 albums and 3 EP's. The lyrics will not change.

zaizariii
he is such a better screamer than owens, owens had a sorry excuse for a scream. this guy will pull chiodos out of the hole its been in since it was formed... if thats even possible jajaja

attackattackisamazing
They need to change the name..they arent Chiodos without Craig.

mjohn
Craig is was the pretty boy of the band with a really good voice. He was the face of Chiodos. Listening to this guy (never heard of Yesterday Rising before) I see that there is some faith still in Chiodos. coramosa, you are right. He really didn't write anything and the songs will not change to drastically with instrumental and lyrics. I do miss Craig, but this maybe for the better. A stronger Chiodos, and Craig being happy with his many side projects

fakinglifenow
Crazy news. Anyone that hasn't heard/seen Yesterday's Rising, they're pretty good. I def. think it's going to be a nice fit. People are going to talk shit because it's not Craig but they'll eventually end up becoming fans again. Watch the Warped Tour 2004 dvd and you'll be a believer.

KryKslr
I think the voice is good.....it will fit the band well and they'll make some good music......but as for stage presence.....he has NONE....ZERO.....LIVE SHOWS WILL BE HORRIBLE.....which saddens me.....Chiodos had great stage presence....but from what I've seen of this guy.....that's going to change....he just kind of walks around the stage, maybe a couple hops or something.....but its not the presence Craig had.....music will be good I think.....but I won't drive hours to a show like I used to

oh@ndy187
I think Bolmer will do just fine actually! I saw yesterdays rising live he really gets into his performances "gets rowdy"! haha and vocally I think and I know a lot of you hardcore Chiodos fans are going to hate me for this but I think he has more to offer... I'm very excited to see where their music goes!!! I will purchase the album! best of luck with the new tunes!
