Guitar pioneer Les Paul passes away at 94

Alternative Press - Scott Heisel on 8/13/09 @ 12:30 PM - altpress.com

Les Paul, the man who singlehandedly changed the face of music with the invention of the solid-body electric guitar, has passed away, according to a spokesperson with Gibson Guitar. He was 94. MSNBC is reporting that Paul passed at White Plains Hospital in New York from complications of pneumonia.

The two-time Grammy winner not only invented the solid-body electric guitar in 1939 before designing the world-famous Gibson Les Paul in the early '50s (still mass-produced today and considered the standard in rock music worldwide), he also created a number of performance and recording techniques, including overdubbing, delay and multitrack recording. His most recent album was 2008's A Tribute To A Legend.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family, friends and fans of Les Paul.

Just recently got a Les Paul guitar, and everytime I play it from now on, I will think of him.
