Chuck Biscuits death reports allegedly a hoax

Alternative Press - Tim Karan on 10/29/09 @ 10:51 PM - altpress.com

Earlier today, blogs and websites began reporting that Social Distortion and Danzig drummer Chuck Biscuits (Charles Montgomery) had succumbed to throat cancer. After it showed up on a number of reputable news sites, even we picked up the story. However, James Greene, the author of the original story now has statements from the drummer's family stating that Chuck is still alive.

The author received the following e-mail from the wife of Montgomery's brother. "This note is on behalf of Bob Montgomery, who ask me (his wife) to let you know that CHUCK IS ALIVE. Bob is on his way to see him now and will send you a follow up email in the near future."

Greene says on his site that he had been in contact with a couple claiming to be Charles Montgomery and his wife since May, and that he may have fallen victim to an "elaborate hoax."

A post on his site reads: "Rumors are beginning to swirl that this is some kind of elaborate hoax. If so, I can assure you I am NOT in on it. I have previously chronicled my contact with Chuck/person(s) claiming to be Chuck(?) and never had any reason to disbelieve their claims...

...All I can tell you is I've been communicating with two people since May I was always 99.999% sure were THE Chuck Biscuits and his wife from e-mail addresses bearing their names. They never asked me to wire money to a Nigerian prince or adopt their child, so I took it all at face value.

Chuck's wife is allegedly the one who has been sending out mass e-mails about Chuck's condition to family and friends; I didn't use her name below because I didn't know if she'd be comfortable with that and it didn't seem like a good time to bring it up, considering her husband was dying. I'm still not going to use her name on the same grounds.

Although I can't imagine why a former member of Danzig would want to fake his own death via the Internet, I know plenty of people who severely dislike me and would take any chance they could to play on my gullibility to make me look as stupid as possible (i.e. e-mail me for six months pretending to be a dying drummer I admire). If this is all a big fat lie, I'm sorry, but I promise I was duped just as hard as you.]"

This all comes only a few weeks after a false rumor was started that Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley had died.

We wanna know: What do you think of all this?

i wish people would stop fucking around about this stuff. if somebody's a serious social d or black flag fan, this news could be fucking traumatic for them and then to say it might be a hoax...this shit isnt to be taken lightly

cgold111
as a big black flag fan and a MASSIVE social d fan i was really upset to hear about his passing, and to hear that it may have been a hoax is all the more upsetting. these are peoples lives and regardless of how you feel about a band there are no grounds to toy with peoples feeling like this. what if people that actually knew chuck read this and believed it? it's just horrible.

*Sigh*

hope_forxanother_day
this isnt fair. anyone have ideas as to why this is happening?. Craig really get this depressed to give up on everything after the chiodos incident. it isnt right i tell you

TheSceneAvenger
Give Craig a little bit of a break hope_forxanother_day. Think about it this way: if one of your bandmates was a part in kicking you out of said band, would you really want to continue being in a different band with that same bandmate? Remember, Brad is in CinSun, too. So some of those problems and issues that led to Craig being dismissed from Chiodos probably played a part in the CinSun breakup, too.

WhoSandieJENkins
This is so heartbreaking. I really hope Craig does not give up on music. I wish they would tell us why they would kick out Craig out of a band that he was a part of starting. Why is 2009 the worst year for music?

roquettestar
"final three shows" does this mean this is like the end of cinsun too? wth? i've never even seen them live and can't go to any of these shows

sofakingvsjedi
I am so confused right now...this is worse than Michael Jackson dying and September 11th combined. SAD FACE!

Copeland break up

Alternative Press - Tim Karan on 10/29/09 @ 1:03 PM - altpress.com

Copeland have announced that they will break up after their spring tour. The Florida foursome formed in 2000 and released their latest album, The Grey Man EP, in February. The band also says that there may be one more album released before parting ways. They have released the following statement:

"Dear friends,

We have come to an extremely difficult decision. It has come time for us to move on from Copeland and follow other paths in our lives. We are absolutely grateful to have been able to make music for as long as we have. In the last 9 years we've been able to see parts of the world that we never dreamt we would see. We have shared the stage and built friendships with immensely talented artists. We've been afforded the opportunity to make 4 records that we're extremely proud of. Most of all, we feel honored that people have cared so much for our band and for our art. We appreciate every listener who has allowed our music to be a part of their lives. We want to offer our deepest thanks to every individual who has supported us on this ride. It has profoundly impacted our lives.

To put your minds at ease, we assure you this is not a bitter break up. We all individually feel Copeland has run its course in our lives and it's time for us to pursue what is next. We couldn't end things without a proper goodbye, so we are planning a final farewell tour in the US this coming Spring, as well as one final jaunt around the world to some of our favorite countries. We are really excited about seeing you all one more time, and we hope it turns out to be the best Copeland tour ever.

It has been discussed and we are not ruling out the possibility of recording one more album sometime in the future. However, this spring tour will be our last.

From the bottom of hearts, thank you for all of your love and support.

Aaron, Bryan, Jon & Stephen"
