In Remembrance: former Built To Spill drummer Andy Capps (1969-2006)

Alternative Press - Scott Heisel on 5/26/06 @ 10:50 AM - altpress.com

Pitchfork is reporting that James Andrew "Andy" Capps, former drummer of Idaho indie-rock yeomen Built To Spill, passed away Thursday, May 18, in his home, according to Boise, Idaho, newspaper The Idaho Statesman. He was 37. There was no cause of death listed.

Capps' drumming can be found on BTS's 1994 album There's Nothing Wrong With Love. He left the group before the band signed to Warner Bros. in 1995.

The band's publicist confirmed the passing, and said the band had no comment.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family, friends and fans of Mr. Capps.

Fat Mike to auction off his first guitar for charity

Alternative Press - Scott Heisel on 5/25/06 @ 9:18 PM - altpress.com

NOFX leader and Fat Wreck Chords label head Fat Mike has donated his first guitar to Unite The United, a charity formed to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Of course, what's interesting about this is that Fat Mike doesn't play guitar in NOFX; he plays bass.

"It was my first guitar," he says. "I bought it from Lynn Strait [the late singer of Snot] for $50 who actually stole it in the first place, so I bought a stolen guitar. I wrote all of Liberal Animation on it. It never toured since I don't play guitar on tour. Oh, and the E string never stays in tune."

You can check the auction for it, as well as other items being auctioned for charity, here.
