Black Dice - Load BlownPosted by Rachel Lux on 26-Feb-08 @ 01:39 PM
[2.5/5]Load Blown is a compilation of Black Dice's three vinyl-only EP releases, and as such, there was a gap between when the earliest material was recorded and the most recent-nearly a year and a half in all-which would indicate at least a potential for variety. That might be the case, although it will take patience to the point of insanity to test that theory: Load Blown is a redundant affair where the music sounds like the mating call of R2D2. Frantic bleeps and terminal blips punctuate background static and odd samples of a human voice seemingly macerated in a pool of liquid hydrogen, repeated until you think it might very well be God telling you to drink the Kool-Aid. It takes tremendous willpower not to indulge, and Black Dice make moderation impossible: You either listen without prejudice (and ideally with headphones) or deem it the most pretentious, boring swill on the planet.
