Harlots - BetrayerPosted by Rachel Lux on 26-Feb-08 @ 02:07 PM
[4/5]Plenty of metal bands try and write long songs that captivate for the entire duration, but the amount who succeed is decidedly minute. Harlots know this, and their ability to balance short, two-minute onslaughts with eight- and 12-minute epics makes it all the more apparent. "Dried-Up Goliathon" is a real trip: The basic rhythm is relatively melodic, punctuated by tactful explosions of fury and dissonance. Harlots are never loud for the sake of it; Harlots are loud because their command of dynamics is tuned to an almost perfect degree. "The Concept Of Existence" is an exercise in speed and musical dexterity, as the frenetic pace is subject to many rises and falls, each backed by thunderous drumming and an entrancing, ambient background. The end of this album is only an excuse to listen to it all over again. (LIFEFORCE) Jordan Rogowski Official Website: http://www.lifeforcerecords.com
