The Helio Sequence - Keep Your Eyes AheadPosted by Laila Hanson on 28-May-08 @ 01:42 PM
[4.5/5]With Silversun Pickups and Band Of Horses accruing acclaim and attention for their moody, sparkling indie-pop, it's easy to overlook the fact that Portland duo the Helio Sequence have been quietly dancing around in this style for years. Keep Your Eyes Ahead, employs a deft combination of swooping guitars and keys to craft lush tracks that slide under your skin with a welcome emotive quality. It's the most solid album in the group's discography, haunting with moments of near perfection. The songs, which range from the acoustic, folk-tinged "Shed Your Love" to the propulsive "Can't Say No" to the Dylan-esque "Broken Afternoon," fit cohesively, each contributing to the misty atmosphere the duo slowly build around the listener. Third time, it seems, is a charm, even if it's always been good to begin with. (SUB POP) Emily Zemler Official Website: http://www.subpop.com
