[2/5]Who knew that Rio De Janeiro was so louco for hair-metal power chords, hip-hop chants and Casio percussion? Bonde Do Role offer a Brazilian bomb of dirty Portuguese raps just shy of blush-worthy on top of a "totally 80's" pastiche. It's like listening to competing car systems down at the dirt-floor parking lot by the local fish market. Marina Gasolina, compiling rare tracks and remixes from the band's 2007 debut With Lasers, tries to keep the favela flavor fresh. Unfortunately, the B-sides plop instead of fizz, and the gringo remixers (Peaches, Architecture In Helsinki) beat-tweak and Anglo-wash the grit down to spit. Stick with the originals instead-baile funk and Van Halen riffs powered by stolen electricity and dirty coke, the real Miami vice by way of South America.
