Do you have a long attention span and an insatiable appetite for thickly layered analog synthesizers? Do you not scrunch up your face in disgust upon hearing the term "prog rock"? Do you like to ingest things that alter your perception of reality? Yes? Then you may find Steve Moore's The Henge to be the soundtrack to your next bong-enhanced mental journey. The disc begins with ominous low-end motor-drone accompanied by triumphant, horn-like fanfares. Four minutes in, the synths start whirling with foreboding intensity. From there, Moore launches his sound into deep space. "Infinite Resignation"'s plinking arpeggios and soothing, rich drones recall Detroit techno pioneer Derrick May, but the beats come off like John Bonham thwacking two huge 2x4s. The rest of The Henge suggests Moore could have a lucrative career scoring high-budget horror flicks and melodramatic thrillers with tense chase scenes. Michael Mann should be calling any day now...
