Various eastern folk musics are dug up for some avant-gardening
Various Artists - Post-Asiatic: Lost War Dream MusicPosted by Laila Hanson on 28-May-08 @ 03:54 PM
[3.5/5]This double-disc collection features 25 avant-garde artists using musical elements of various Eastern and Asiatic cultures. Since there's nothing on the double disc that would make you lose your lease, this compilation should be experienced uninterrupted to appreciate its scope. Of the more "famous" names, Amps For Christ offer the 10-minute plus "Happy Birthday, Sibanjar," that's all opium-den ambiance; master percussionist Z'ev teams with Ramona Ponzini for the resonating "7M24S" and the late Bryn Jones, aka Muslimgauze, appears with the brooding, Four Tet-ish "Zahal End." Lost War Dream Music is certainly an acquired taste, but in an era when culture seems to be locked into a Möebius loop, this collection and a good set of headphones will take you places you've never been.
