Why yes, yes we do
British Sea Power - Do You Like Rock Music?Posted by Laila Hanson on 29-May-08 @ 11:41 AM
[4/5]On their third album, British Sea Power expound on the sweeping melodrama of 2003's The Decline Of British Sea Power while inserting fiery bursts of mid-'90s underground rock. There's a measured tact employed in "Lights Out For Darker Skies," which caps the song from exploding into a foamy mess, resonating with every ambitious arrangement and smooth rock yelp from vocalist Yan. On "Atom," drummer Wood's bouncy groove cuts and jives like a '60s garage rehearsal while Yan's reverb-y vocals dip in and out of balance. "No Need To Cry" provides a velvet repose that distances itself from the piss and vinegar of the other tracks. The result is a vivid, nostalgic traipse into what good rock bands ought to sound like.
