Members of Godspeed You! Black Emperor get freak-folksy
Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra & Tra-La-La Band - 13 Blues For 13 MoonsPosted by Laila Hanson on 02-Jun-08 @ 02:54 PM
[2/5]Now that Godspeed You! Black Emperor are on indefinite hiatus, the bands' members have time to focus on their 900 side projects, the most prolific of which being Thee Silver Mt. Zion. If you thought the Mars Volta's Amputechture was interminable, wait until you hear this thing. With four songs clocking in at an average length of 14 minutes each, 13 Blues For 13 Moons' orchestral "songs" sound more like the soundtrack to a drum circle potluck than a cohesive album-and the drony title track is so shiftless, you'll think your CD is skipping. That isn't to say the album doesn't have its moments (check out the cathartic climax of the closing number, "BlindBlindBlind") but when you consider the amount of time and patience it takes to get to that point, it's hardly worth the payoff.
