Forget cold water; Jimmy Stadt’s voice will keep you warm

Polar Bear Club - Sometimes Things Just Disappear

[4.5/5]
The strength of Polar Bear Club lies in lead singer Jimmy Stadt's simultaneously warm and incredibly powerful vocal cords. Each of the 10 dynamic tracks on Sometimes Things Just Disappear are anchored by Stadt; his unflappable skill and confidence exudes from every post-hardcore swell and crest songs like "Hollow Place" have to offer. While that track would have fit perfectly on the band's 2006 debut EP The Redder, The Better, they're not a group content with their own status quo. The wrenching "Convinced I'm Wrong" is much slower than anything they've previously attempted, but the masterful arrangment shows their comfort at any style and tempo. This immensely talented Rochester, New York, quintet have all the poise of seasoned veterans, sounding like a cross between Small Brown Bike's carefully calculated aggression and Third Eye Blind's knack for pop hooks. The scary thing is, they're only just beginning. (RED LEADER) Jordan Rogowski
