The Out_Circuit - Pierce The Empire With A SoundPosted by Laila Hanson on 03-Jun-08 @ 05:12 PM
[4/5]There are plenty of moods you can be in to enjoy the first album in half a decade from the Out_Circuit, but unless that mood is "morose," you're not getting the full effect. Five years have passed since Nathan Burke released Burn Your Scripts, Boys--the lush debut by the former Frodus bassist--and from the initial rumbling of the thunderous and aptly titled opener "Come Out Shooting," it's clear Boys' increasingly synthetic follow-up is even more ominous. Mixed by Thrice guitarist Teppei Teranishi, Pierce The Empire With A Sound is often reminiscent of the moody melodicism of Team Sleep ("Across The Light") and a trippier, Year Zero-era Nine Inch Nails ("The Fall Of Las Vegas"); it also occasionally takes on the attributes of its many guest vocalists, including Coalesce's Sean Ingram and Teranishi's bandmate Dustin Kensrue. At times, this combination borders on a sort of angular nĂ¼-gaze brilliance. (LUJO) Tim Karan Official Website: http://www.lujorecords.com
