Genghis Tron - Board Up The House

Genghis Tron's latest opus deserves accolades just for the powerhouse finale, the 11-minute operatic "Relief"? It's heavy, beauteous, cathartic, intense. But that'd be selling the band short, as the Tron have fashioned a record that must be heard as a whole for all its intricacies to be grasped. Multiple spins are definitely needed for listeners to wrap their heads around this cerebral work that, though all over the map genre-wise (electronic-laced hardcore, metal, grind, industrial and new wave coexist in conflicted harmony), is amazingly cohesive. A tension and troubled immediacy runs throughout Board Up The House, with some musical themes reappearing in different songs. This interrelated aspect is matched by the overall premise of the subject matter; words such as "panic," "desperate" and "dark" reoccur, as the band lay out an understandably bleak, world-weary view of the future, as on the self-evident "Things Don't Look Good."
