Garage party, everyone’s invited
The Dirtbombs - We Have You SurroundedPosted by Laila Hanson on 05-Jun-08 @ 12:14 PM
[2.5/5]While the Dirtbombs have been a Detroit garage-rock staple for years, the band's bizarre choices of artistic expression can sometimes weigh them down, as evident on their latest effort, We Have You Surrounded. When the Dirtbombs are on, they're on all the way. Revved-up numbers such as "Ever Lovin Man" and "Pretty Princess Day" best capture the frantic spirit of the band's notorious live show, and they show any casual Hives fan how a group of actual Detroit folk really do it. However, the album may have been best served as an EP (which it was originally scheduled to be); it's an uneven mix of energetic jams and unfocused duds such as "Leopardman At C & A" and their cover of Sparks' "Sherlock Holmes."
