Ministry And Co-Conspirators - Cover Up

[3/5]
Al Jourgensen howls the words to ZZ Top's "Just Got Paid" like some weird mythological creature left to guard the gates of hell while the programmed kick drum goes berserk. That rendition aside, most tracks on Cover Up find Jourgensen and his co-conspirators playing it straighter than you would have thought, bringing a heavier edge (and little else) to their otherwise shockingly faithful renditions of the Rolling Stones' "Under My Thumb," T. Rex's "Bang A Gong" and Golden Earring's "Radar Love." Things get a little more intense five tracks in when they hit Leadbelly's "Black Betty." But even then, it's more a case of toughening things up than reinventing any wheels. The most outrageous thing about Cover Up is the album art--a shot of JFK's last ride with Jourgensen as Jackie O. That's just the sort of tasteless fun they should have been having with "Under My Thumb." (13TH PLANET/MEGAFORCE) Ed Masley
