[3/5]With nearly 12 years and an expansive brace of remixes under their belt, these London dubsters take the opportunity on their latest platter to touch a few different points of the musical spectrum. From modern R&B funk ("Open") to pseudo-space rock ("Speed Of Light"), Dub Pistols provide solid vocal performances and steady rocking without using cartoonish beats. Slightly less compelling are a handful of covers that include a version of the Stranglers' "Peaches" that reduces the yobs-on-holiday classic to clunky hip hop and a very literal reading of the Special AKA's "Gangsters," which adds little to the eerily Spartan original. Still, Speakers And Tweeters is an admirably varied effort from a band whose Two-Tone jones is just the starting point. (DEFEND) Jeff Leven Official Website: http://www.defendmusic.com
