[3.5/5]New York City melodic hardcore staples H2O have returned with their first new music since 2002's horrid All We Want EP, unarguably the lowest point in the band's now-13-year career. Any diehards left after the six-year gap in new material will find Nothing To Prove helping the band escape from the pop-punk ghetto MCA Records pushed them into. Instead of going with over-the-top machismo to prove they're still legit, Toby Morse & Co. made an album akin to Lifetime's self-titled comeback disc, one that doesn't actively try to change their formula from what worked in their '90s heyday. There's an indictment of false friendship ("Fairweather Friend"), reminiscing on the early years ("1995") and sticking to straight-edge beliefs (the fantastic "Still Here"), all backed by the bouncy, aggressive popcore H2O have mined for a decade-plus. The Matt Skiba-assisted "What Happened" is the only real clunker of the whole batch. (BRIDGE NINE) Scott Heisel Official Website: http://www.bridge9.com
